The presentors were Mary Francis Pellas and Clarissa Mariano of Child Development Department of Miriam College.
Mary Francis, the first presentor, spoke of the introduction and rationale of the child development education. She said that the teachers are trained to be competed and to improve the perspective of the students that students are agents of change and that they be involved in service learning projects. Students should also know the needs of the community in order to assist and assess the community needs.
The second presentor Clarissa spoke of the Swartz Model of Altruistic Behavior of students. One is the perception of a need to respond by students and the other one is obligation of students to respond to needs.

It was really an overwhelming experience on my part, and it gave me enough reason to love teaching and to pursue this career. The heart of the teacher has long been forgotten becaus of the focus on the academic, methodological and pedagogic aspects of teaching. But here, I have learned that the main reason teachers teach is because of their love for their family, which is true, because Filipinos really are family-centric. But the main reason I was happy deep inside is because, many answered in this study, “I want to make a difference.”
That warmed my heart. It gave hope for this young one, that really, there is still hope for our education here in the Philippines, as long as there are others who are willing to make a difference. 🙂
Dr. Marie Grace Gomez’s presentation entitled “Moral Reasoning of Children in Conflict with the Law” was an eye opener to the current state of children’s moral value. The reactions of the children who were in jail due to different crimes they committed are a burden. Some have the wrong concept of brotherhood, an example is the boy who puts time and effort, consistently watching his ‘enemy’ and when the opportunity strikes, he killed. The heck.
As future teachers it is our responsibility to guide young generation towards good moral. We are not just to teach them lessons but we are imparting our life, our way of living.
